Summits on the Air (SOTA)
You will discover new places and come across beautiful scenery
with often a stunning view from the summit.
Other radio amateurs will be keen to make radio contact with you
and short wave listeners (SWL) can participate too, earning points.
My SOTA 2016 (July) holiday to
Ireland included a stop-over in South Wales. This year's destinations
were Co. Wicklow for amateur radio activities coinciding with the "IRTS VHF/UHF
Field Day" and Co. Donegal for some sightseeing combined with hill walking
(SOTA). En route I completed a SOTA in Co. Armagh and Co. Tyrone.
Unfortulatelly poor WX at the West Coast precluded hill walking
(and SOTA activities) on the higher hills or at all on certain days!
Atlantic depressions hit the NW coast particularly hard during July, no
summer in sight. The weather improved on my return journey, driving across
Ireland from Co. Donegal for the Rosslare ferry to Wales ...
P.O. box at Teeling village, Co. Donegal.
